What is a Home Care Package?

A home care package is a form of aged home care provided by the Australian Government to help older people obtain the necessary care to live safely and independently in their homes. These packages are delivered on a Consumer Directed Care (CDC) basis; an approach that gives you more choice and control in the services you access. You are given a personalised care budget and you determine the level of involvement you would like to have in managing your own package.

Four levels of home care support that are available:
Level 1 – for people with basic care needs
Level 2 – for people with low-level care needs
Level 3 – for people with intermediate care needs
Level 4 – for people with high-level care needs.

What types of services are available?

Our services include, but are not limited to:

Personal Care: showering, dressing, mobility, meal preparation and fitting sensory communication aids.

Support Services: laundry, house cleaning, gardening, basic home maintenance, home modifications (related to care needs), and transport to help you do shopping, visit your doctor or attend social activities.

Clinical Care: nursing, allied health, hearing services and vision services.

Who is Eligible?

  • Older people who need assistance to remain living in their own homes.
  • People with a disability, dementia or other special needs that cannot be met through other specialist services.

To be allocated a Home Care Package, you must be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) who will determine your package level. If you’re in the process of ACAT assessment or you’re about to be, it’s time to talk.
