Student Wellbeing and Education Program (S.WE.E.P.)

The Student WEllbeing and Education Program, known as S.WE.E.P., was created in 2019 when a need was recognised by local schools and 3Bridges Youth for holistic wellbeing interventions delivered in schools, with partnerships between education and community services. Starting with a group of four schools, S.WE.E.P. now spans across twelve schools over five LGAs in Sydney, in both primary and high school contexts.

S.WE.E.P. sees a 3Bridges-employed worker based within a school context, bridging together education and community services for the purposes of wellbeing, community engagement, and supporting attendance outcomes. S.WE.E.P. Workers deliver 1:1 support, case work, complex case management, programs, events, outreach, and more, depending on the schools’ needs and existing supports.

Schools play a crucial role in developing the wellbeing and mental health for young people, and school communities must be confident students can rely on support at school. Research indicates the correlation between low wellbeing levels and low educational engagement and attainment, and post-COVID studies indicate mental ill-health is on the rise for children and young people. With the placement of a S.WE.E.P. Worker, internal and external wellbeing services are made more accessible in schools, making psychological wellbeing of students at the forefront in conversations about educational engagement.
